Pema e fikut
është disa metra larg tavolinës sime.
Unë e shikoj sa herë që ngre sytë,
të zhytur në qetësi.
Çdo gjethe është si një violinë e vogël.
Kaq shumë melodi të fshehura varen atje,
dhe vetëm në gjumin tim,
ato luajnë së bashku.
Kur zgjohem në mengjes,
toka është e mbuluar me të gjitha notat,
dhe një vjershë e re shfaqet mbi degë.
Ato bëjnë prova dhe interpretojnë përsëri,
duke u dëfryer dhe mos u lodhur kurrë.
Mos vallë po e humbas kohën time kot?
Apo ashtu si ato, ndryshime të këndshme
ndodhin, por vetëm brenda.
Pjesa e jashtme duket e qetë gjithmonë.

THE FICUS TREE
The ficus tree
is a few meters in front of my desk.
I can see it whenever I look up,
and it seems still.
Each leaf is like a mini violin.
So many hidden melodies hanging there,
and only in my sleep,
they play together.
When I wake up in the morning,
the ground is covered with all of the notes,
and a new verse appears on the branches.
They rehearse and perform repeatedly,
enjoying it and never getting tired.
Yet am I frittering away my time?
Or just like them, delightful changes
always happen, but only inside.
The outside seems still.

From the "Poetry without borders" project of the Ithaca Cultural Foundation in Spain directed by the well-known international poet, translator and publisher of modern poetry Germain Droogenbroodt. The translator from English to Albanian is Irma Kurti, poet and writer living in Italy.
