Reema Hamza, poem
REEMA HAMZA - TRANSLATED BY: HASSANE YARTI

Legitimate Thefts
He stole a pillow
from a hotel room's lavish.
At night he dreamed he was rich,
by morning
he sold the dream
and bought a meal.
He told his friend:
“We do not steal,
we merely redistribute the things we love…
without official seal.”
When he chose repentance,
he stole a Qur’an,
wishing to begin
with a text made clean.
He broke into a house
empty of everything,
yet left in tears:
“I stole its emptiness…
and suddenly
I was full.”
