History
I am Jerenga Pathar, the land of heroic Assamese women,
A living symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism
Of Mother Sati Joymati’s sacrifice.
Gohpur is my name, I am the land of valor
From the bravery of 1942,
Of the heroine Kanaklata.
I am Saraighat, with the mighty Luit as my eternal witness,
The battlefield of the great warrior Lachit,
The self-respect of our homeland and people.
They named me Madhupur Satra
Where the revered Guru, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, humbly shared
The "essence, path, and teachings."
I am Rang Ghar, once the grand seat of culture,
A witness to the traditions and customs of Greater Assam.
I am the Great Luit, the earnest call of many scholars' pens,
Flowing through songs, poems, and musical melodies.
Today, Sati Joymati and Kanaklata, the heart of our soul, have passed into the past;
Heroic Lachit, Chilarai, and the saint's Bordowa have all become history.
Yet their lessons remain ever-present
The glory of sacrifice, patriotism, and devotion.
We must move forward from the past into the present,
Else those lessons will turn into regret.
History is our teacher, and a great union is essential to build society.
From the fading pages of the past to a clear, bright present,
From Guru Sankardeva to Bhupen-da,
The time has come to nourish and fertilize the young saplings
A call for the union of past and present.

Jayshree Saikia is a retired Corporate Communications Officer, Deputy General Manager, ONGC, Graduate in Electrical Engineering, Post Graduate in Official Language from the Central Government, and Certified Lead Auditor by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). She has
Published 10 books in Assamese, 2 in English and Hindi. Edited three books Disoi (Short Story Collection), Aahuti (Poetry Collection), and Shaswati (Poetry Collection).
Edited Annual Magazines (4): Pragya, Jetuka, Sahitya Chinta, and Sudhakantha.
Edited E-Magazines (2): Mumbai Sahitya Sabha's Pravasi Uddipana and Xudhakantha.
